When a screen needs replacing

• Cracked glass, even if the display underneath still works — cracks let in moisture and spread
• Touch not responding, in patches or entirely
• Black or blank display while the phone still rings and vibrates
• Lines, bands or coloured patches across the panel

Not every screen fault needs a screen

This is the part worth knowing before you pay for a panel. Several faults that look exactly like a dead display are actually on the motherboard: a damaged display connector, a failed display driver circuit, a cracked solder joint under the connector after a drop. Replacing the panel does not fix any of those, and you would have paid for a screen you did not need.

We check the board before quoting a panel. It takes a few minutes on the microscope and it is the difference between fixing your phone and selling you a part. If it turns out to be a board fault, that is usually the cheaper repair of the two.

Panel quality

We fit OLED and LCD panels according to what the model originally used. Putting an LCD into a phone designed around OLED is cheaper and it is what makes a repaired phone look wrong afterwards — blacks turn grey, colours shift, and the always-on display stops behaving. We will tell you what we are fitting and what it costs, rather than quoting a low price and fitting whatever is cheapest.

After fitting, true-tone and touch calibration are restored, and the phone is tested for touch response across the whole panel, brightness, and the front sensors before it goes back to you.

Screen prices vary more than any other repair — by model, by panel type, and by part availability at the time. There is no honest single figure to publish, so we do not publish one.
