Drying a phone is not fixing it
This is the single most important thing to understand about water damage, and it is why so many "dried out" phones die weeks later.
Water leaves behind minerals and salts. Those deposits stay on the board after every trace of moisture has evaporated, and they keep conducting and corroding. A phone that is bone dry but still contaminated is still being eaten. Rice, hair dryers and sunlight all address moisture and do nothing about the residue — which is the part that actually kills the board.
Recovery means removing the contamination, not just the water.
What we actually do
- Phone stripped down and the battery disconnected first, before anything else
- Shields lifted off the board. This is the step that distinguishes real recovery from surface drying — the water gets underneath the metal shields, and a board cleaned only on top has been cleaned nowhere that matters
- Board cleaned properly to lift the residue out of the corners
- Inspection under the microscope for corroded pads, lifted components and damaged traces
- Component-level repair of whatever the corrosion has already destroyed
- Tested under load before it goes back to you
Why we test rather than just hand it back
A phone that boots is not a phone that is fixed. A board with corrosion left under a shield will work for a week or two and then fail, usually after the customer has gone home happy. Checking properly is part of the job, and it is why water damage takes longer than most repairs.
Honest odds
We are not going to promise every wet phone comes back, because that is not true of anyone.
- Good chance: switched off immediately, never plugged in, brought to us the same day
- Harder: left on, or powered up to "check if it still works", or a few days old
- Often not worth the money: plugged in while wet, or weeks of corrosion, or seawater
We diagnose first and tell you which of those you are in before you commit to anything. If the honest answer is that the phone is not worth the repair, you will hear that.
If the data matters
Say so straight away. Recovering photos and messages from a water-damaged board is a different priority from getting the phone working long-term, and it sometimes changes the approach entirely — there are cases where the sensible move is to get the board alive just long enough to pull the data off.
